What Was I Thinking?: How to Make Better Decisions So You Can Live and Lead with Confidence by David Ashcraft (Author),

How do you know when the rewards outweigh the risks? If you want to reach your full potential in life, you can't play it safe. If you're too risk averse, you'll be resigned to a life of mediocrity. But if you risk foolishly, you may destroy your life's work and legacy. But we can be overwhelmed by the sheer number of decisions we face, and the challenge of weighing the risks and rewards of each. In all this confusion, how can you be sure you won't end up asking yourself, what was I thinking? In this new book, David Ashcraft, pastor of a large and influential church, and Rob Skacel, licensed psychologist and executive coach, encourage readers to embrace risk and to live their lives to the fullest potential, in order to both run and finish the race with no regrets. I find it refreshing when a book on leadership combines concepts that equip the reader to be the best that they can be along with highly relevant, real-life application in the form of personal illustrations. David Ashcraft and Rob Skacel do just that with their very insightful book, What Was I Thinking: How to Make Better Decisions So You Can Live and Lead with Confidence. Using the acronym “DOPE,” they lay out a process for decision making within a framework of risk analysis that is not only helpful for day-to-day decisions, but also those that are at the roots of our organizational stresses. Using personal – and often vulnerable – stories from within their own contexts of ministry and business, David and Rob lay out a plan that is easily attainable and translatable regardless of your vocational setting. I have known both these men as friends and colleagues for over two decades and can attest to the integrity of who they are as leaders and persons of faith. This is a solid, easy to digest book that would be a great resource for boards, staff teams, elders, and ministry teams to study together. I highly recommend it. ---The Rev. Dr. David E. Woolverton, Lead Pastor and author of Mission Rift: Leading through Church Conflict
