I know this is quite sacrilegious to say in the colorist community but I was never a fan of Kerby's work in the Mythomorphia days. I always could admire his work but it just didn't appeal to me to color with the hidden objects and doodles. The last 2 books before this, Worlds Within Worlds and Fragile World, were when the tides started to change for me and Kerby's work. He's detailed buy imaginative. The paper quality is always high. I've just always been into portrait art and coloring and Kerby's weren't appealing to me. This book is where high quality paper, large amount of images, fine detail yet enough open spaces for creativity, AWESOME subject matter and beautiful artwork all come together. This book is my favorite of his BY FAR. If you told me a few years ago I'd have purchase his book on pre-order I would have laughed at you. This book is stunning. The images are all varied and provide so many options. It's printed double sided onbthe paper and some double page spreads go into the crease, but his books are also cheap enough and easily enough to come by that its not a huge deal to get another copy or 2. It takes the pressure off to be a perfectionist and helps to not limit myself to certain mediums. This book is beautiful. It might be my first full book completion and coming from me that is saying something. I can't stress that enough. I'm not a Kerby fangirl, but these pictures just pull me right in. The end of the book also has a glossary and gives a short definition and description of each mythological entity, so I'm learning as well. I couldn't be happier with this book. It's his best and I only hope he stays on this trajectory. Amazing work. I can't wait to see everyone's finished pages!
