If you are looking for a book to help you lose some weight quickly, are stuck on a weight loss plateau, or just want to explore how changing your diet for just under a week can make you feel, you have come to the right place! In MenuPause, Dr. Anna Cabeca, a triple board-certified OB/Gyn and functional medicine doctor provides a beautiful book with 5 unique eating plans plus information that helps you to understand which of the plans is right for you. There is a plan that eliminates all the major allergens, one all-liquid plan with smoothies and bone broths, and a plan containing healthy carbs. Dr. Anna also includes a plant-based plan and its opposite: a carnivore plan. You can choose one or two of the plans or cycle through all of them. Every plan has a potential benefit: even if you don't want to go vegan, for example, Dr. Anna explains that just about everyone can benefit from taking a short pause from animal products by following the plant-based plan. And this is also a great opportunity to try out the controversial carnivore diet; Dr. Anna explains that a short-term version of this diet can have great benefits! The book contains lots of recipes, many with big, beautiful color photos. The recipes are tasty, with an international flair. I have tried almost 50 of the recipes and they were ALL very good! The ingredients are mostly simple; although there may be a few vegetables and spices that you haven't used before, this book will not require you to go out and purchase a whole bunch of "strange and unusual" items. This is a whole-foods, quality food approach that will be familiar to those in the Paleo, whole 30, and whole foods communities. Even if you aren't interested in the individual eating plans, the book will give you hundreds of recipes that you can mix and match for an entire month of healthy food! The real question here: do the eating plans work? I have cycled through all of them (I had an advance copy, but this is an honest review and I have not been paid for it) and saw benefits from each eating plan: I lost 3 pounds in 6 days on three out of five of the diets. On all the diets, I saw a small reduction in belly fat and overall body composition. It's amazing to think that 6 days made it easier to zip up my jeans! I had more energy on all of them and I felt better overall. Dr. Anna does say that you can do some of the diets twice and that you can cycle them back-to-back. If I do that, I would expect that the benefits will increase. And since I have Dr. Anna's other two books: The Hormone Fix and Keto-Green 16 (which I highly recommend for weight loss and hormone balancing), I can move onto one of those eating plans after the following the MenuPause plans. In short, I think anyone following these diet plans will see very positive changes in just 6 days!
